I Will Die If I Take Another Step

I run. I hike. I spin.

And, sadistic fool that I am, I love all three.

Halfway through the run, midway up the mountain, or halfway through the routine with the bass pounding in my ears, I always want to do the same thing.

But I don't.

(Okay, that's a lie. Sometimes I do. But not very often.)

Instead, I keep going. One wretched tree, one blasted hill, one far-too-peppy song. And then I get to the end.

And then I am happy.

(And eat large bowls of peanut butter chocolate ice cream to celebrate. Don't judge.)

I don't know where you are on your writer journey, but I'm 70 pages from the end of a revision-from-Hades. The end is near, but it's still so dang far there's no peanut butter chocolate ice cream in sight.

(And that makes me cranky).

But I will keep going. One odious* word at a time.

And then I plan to celebrate with an extra large bowl of peanut butter chocolate ice cream. With extra Reese's.

What about you? How's the world of writing treating you these days? I wish you all plenty of easy pages and giant bowls of ice cream!

*I just really wanted to use odious in a sentence today. Ha!

Odious is such a good word! Especially when the end seems so far from the present. I'm going sloooooowly myself. Here's to ice cream celebrations!

Oooh, good luck getting through the last bit. Me? The world of writing is currently making my brain want to kill me. This pantser has been plotting things out. And pantser that I am, I didn't think some things through quite well enough before putting all those plots together and I created some improbable time loops in doing so. Sigh.

Jemi--Odious is lots of fun, at least when it's only a word on a page.

Stephanie--Good luck with those time loops. I have that problem sometimes too!

Lol. I know the revisions/ editing can drive you up the wall. That ice cream is calling your name though. I can hear it all the way on the east coast.

My writing has been a bit slow lately, but I'm hoping it will pick up here soon.

Hahaha...revisions from Hades are what separate the writers from the wannabes. Just keep thinking how great your manuscript will look in its slinky cover while you're doing one more round of revising.

Me? I need to get back into the daily habit of writing again after playing for so many weeks. :)

Same here! I'm a runner and there's always some point during the two- or three-mile mark where I want to stop and go home and sit on the couch with Ben and Jerry's. I always manage to push through and get my second wind, though. This goes for writing as well! Good luck on your journey and I know you will totally deserve that bowl of ice cream when you finish!!

Taken on too much, anyone like to volunteer to finish my four sequels? :0)

Stephanie, you KNOW how my writing is coming along! Lots of frustration and staring at a blank computer screen. But you do a great job encouraging me. Thank you!

I always feel like that when I'm writing a first draft. I love the process of discovery and I know that revision will change at least 80% of every word, but the blank pages make me crazy, and I'm so impatient just to have a story on paper that I can work with. I always feel like I have to really work to get through it. I have not tried the ice cream at the end trick, though. I generally eat it all throughout. Ha! Maybe that's the problem.

When it comes to writing, my bowl of ice cream is a coveted book I've been wanting to read. *sigh*

Peanut butter chocolate ice cream is my very favorite!! *drools just thinking about it*

I have been procrastinating. I need to finish my last re-writes, too--by the end of this month! Maybe I need to promise myself some ice cream! :)

You can do it. I know how painful it seems. And sometimes you think you're close to the finish line, but then it seems farther away.

Peanut butter chocolate ice cream is a great treat to celebrate.
