Hello, My Name is Stephanie And I Have An Addiction

I cannot live without books. -Thomas Jefferson

I have a somewhat addictive personality.

This is not to say that you will become addicted to my sunny disposition after meeting me, but instead that I tend to become addicted to certain things.

Example? In high school I drank 3-4 bottles of Mountain Dew a day. Every day.

Thank goodness I got strep throat and couldn't drink the stuff anymore- I think it was probably eating a hole in my stomach lining.

I'm currently addicted to red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. (And working out every day to counteract its effects on my waistline.)

But the one thing I've always been addicted to?

I'm too lazy to count them (I'm on summer vacation so you'll have to cut me some slack), but I did an estimate today and I own 500+ books.

It's not enough! I need more!

What about you? Are you a book addict? How many books do you own? Or better yet, how many do you think you've read?

Oh my Good Lord, red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting sounds freakin' awesome! I buy that sometimes pre-made at the grocery store I shop at. *drools*

While I LOVE to read, I only own maybe 200 books (reading maybe 30 or so more in my lifetime; I buy all that I read now), but most of them are manga. I just don't always have the time to read nor can I always concentrate. I read a lot more when I was in elementary/middle school without all these darn obligations of mine...

Amanda- Life does tend to get in the way of reading. I tell my husband all the time that I could get a lot more done if I never had to work.

I own at least 200 books. I haven't counted recently. (And I did donate a bunch, like over 100, to a children's hospital last summer. So...)

I love books. When I worked at Barnes and Noble, I never actually took home a penny. Every paycheck went right back to the store.

As for how many I've read? I don't know where to begin estimating, but I'd say close to 1K, between pleasure and school reading. Maybe more than that.

Stephanie- I could never work at Barnes & Noble. I'd be constantly in debt! And yay for donating books to the children's hospital- that's awesome!

I have no idea how many books I own, but I'd guess more than 1k. There are books in every room in my house except the laundry room, and only because I'm never in there long enough to read.

All five of my bookcases are crammed full, and there are still piles of books all over.

Before I started working at Waldenbooks, I just knew I would never bring home a penny. Luckily, I didn't go quite that crazy. We could borrow books from the store's stock, which helped a lot.

Now that I'm not (currently) working, I have more time to read. But almost no money for books. Thank God my local library is so awesome! ^_^

Forgot to mention this: I also have boxes of books in storage. Like probably a dozen boxes or more of nothing but books.

Yeah, I have a lot of books.

Oh my gosh, my husband and I are both addicts. I have no idea how many books we have, but probably more than a thousand. We use our family room as our living room and the rather large "formal living room" as a library. The walls are lined with book cases floor to ceiling. The only furniture is a couple comfy chairs and a computer. It's the first time all of our books have been together in one room and it's magical. I love having a library. If the cats didn't climb on the shelves and knock things down, the books would even be organized.

No clue how many books I've read - maybe 3000? Wild guess. I read a lot more before I began writing.

I AM a book addict. I don't have nearly as many books as you do but I'm always reading. I'm not sure how many I own. Once my class is over I can go back to organizing everything!

Heh, I blogged about a very similar topic a couple of months ago! I am unquestionably a book addict. It's not so much that I have a lot of books (ok, I do) but that a lot of times once I start reading a book I really enjoy, I can't stop reading it. Sometimes, I can't even stop reading for basic necessities, such as food. It's not all books, only the best ones. And the ones that effect me the most strongly...well it doesn't matter how many times I read them, it's always the same.

I have built in bookshelves that are filled up, some books are classic, some new fiction, some nonfiction. My inventory rotates, as I periodically go through the shelves and pull out books to donate to the library book sale and make room for new books :)

I know exactly how many books I have, because I've catalogued them all on Librarything.com! (Another obsession of mine is organizing my books... LOL). I have 1,423 books. And I just ordered 4 more yesterday online... and I'm buying an eReader over the weekend with a pile of pre-loaded classics to read.

Yep... *raises hand* I'm a Class A Bibliophile as well.

I love Mountain Dew!!! I can totally understand that addiction! And books, I've got to have um.

I am definitely addicted to books. If a read a good book, I think I have to have every book that author wrote even though I might not read them. I've got books everywhere.

I'm a total book addict! In my house I probably have 500 as well.

In my classroom, as an estimating activity, the kids figured I had over 1200 novels and 800 nonfiction books. :) I love being surrounded by them!

I have that kind of addictive personality as well. Good thing I'm not a smoker or drinker or I'd surely be overboard with both. Yes, I'm addicted to books as well!

sounds like me. being in the midst of de-cluttering so we can move is killing me because i'm having to give some away. and then i buy more to take their place. don't let me into a bookstore or i'll go crazy.

AWESOME! Books are a great addiction:) I also like the Thomas Jefferson quote. I've always found that the more your read...the more you are able to read:)

As a kid, I'd spend the entire weekend reading the Anne of Green Gables series. Now my daughter is the same way... its strange to be happy for your daughter's addition! (To books, that is).

Red velvet cake! I have the same addiction...except in cupcakes!

Oookkayyy... How many books do I have? Somewhere from 200-300, I'm guessing, and that's mostly because I quickly run out of room to store them... How many books have I read? Different question... Hmm... Going from an estimate of 200 books a year, I'd say 3000-4000. It's kind of sad, but only because my to-read list on Goodreads is currently around 2000... Which means it's going to be a while. :)
